Gifts to the endowment are a long-term investment in the financial health of San Antonio Academy Endowment funds are permanent funds that provide the school with earned income. Thanks to the generosity of individuals our endowment, over 200 donors, in just three years, The Academy’s endowment campaign raised $10.2 million.
Endowment operates like an investment account keeping the school strong for future generations. Each year the school draws income from the endowment – 4% of the twelve-month average. That income supplements the operating budget, taking pressure off tuition. The need for endowment is on-going at The Academy.
San Antonio Academy serves as a significant community resource, graduating future leaders in South Texas and beyond. The Academy has attracted a diverse student body that includes young men from a broad range of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, and the school stands committed to maintaining its diversity. To help preserve the school's diversity, need-based tuition assistance is offered to a limited number of deserving students.
San Antonio Academy's Board of Trustees has a long-standing policy of relying solely upon scholarship endowment interest and annual restricted gifts instead of using operating funds for financial aid. As a result, the growth of our endowment fund is essential if The Academy is to continue to enroll a diverse student body and meet our goal of providing need-based assistance to ten percent of the student body.
One of the greatest benefits to a school's financial aid program is an endowment designated for need-based scholarships. While the Scholarship Fund has increased fifteen-fold since 1985, funds do not meet demand or expectation. Each year our financial aid budget is depleted before it can meet the needs of qualified applicants. More and more families are applying and demonstrating need, but The Academy does not have the resources to help many worthy boys.
San Antonio Academy must continue building its Scholarship Endowment to continue enrolling qualified and committed students who require financial assistance in order to attend. Donors receive updates on their scholar's progress and know that their gifts support a student who otherwise be unable to attend The Academy. Most important, donors know that they are investing in future leaders ... young men who will play an important role in San Antonio, South Texas and beyond.
"The scholarship was a dream come true for my grandson. The education he received from San Antonio Academy was top of the line. The teachers and the entire Academy staff helped in shaping his future...I thank God that you saw a need for such a humanitarian act."
