Update from LPA Design Studios

November 19, 2020

Dear San Antonio Academy Community:

These are exciting times for San Antonio Academy. Construction for the Multipurpose Athletic and Arts Center has been moving fast, smoothly, and with a great collective team effort. As a team, we will work to keep the community updated on significant milestones and upcoming work.

These past few weeks the steel subcontractor has been working diligently to install the structural steel. The gym roof long-span trusses are installed, and intermediate bridging is ongoing. The masons are on site installing the CMU walls in the locker room and gym areas. Below the floor, there is ongoing crawlspace plumbing being installed along with in-wall rough ins. The concrete floors on the first floor have also been polished and will be protected moving forward. Prior to this exciting step, the grading, underfloor foundation, site utilities and first floor foundation were completed.

In the upcoming month keep an eye out for the completion of the remaining roof and the pouring of the second floor slab. An interesting design fact: each of the trusses over the fine arts wing is a custom design to accommodate the unique geometries of these spaces. Please also observe the complexity of the second floor slab over the music room, where two separate composite deck steel and concrete slabs sandwich a layer of foam to help provide acoustical isolation between the music room and art room above.

Sincerely,
