We are the Wildcats!

Dear San Antonio Academy Families,

On behalf of the faculty and staff of San Antonio Academy, welcome to the Wildcat family and our Military Program! The Military Program is designed to enhance the school’s rigorous educational curriculum with a focus on developing young leaders of character committed to the school’s values of “Being Honest, Being Kind, Being the Best You Can Be.”

You can read about my military history here. I come from a family of educators. I have three sisters who are teachers. I spent my early school years in a small East Texas town where my dad was a State Championship football coach and a high school principal. Later we moved to Austin where I completed high school and dad became the director of the UIL.

My wife of 40 years is the former Miss Glory Beth Barnes, known to her friends as GB. She is a retired Orthodontist. We have one child, JB, who is a Scout Platoon Leader with the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart, Georgia.  He is a graduate of Saint Mary’s Hall and the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY (Go Army! Beat Navy!). Our precious boy, now a man, got his start at SAA. It was his experience at San Antonio Academy that led him to seek an appointment to West Point.

Our experience at SAA as a family, and for me as a member of its staff, has been fulfilling and dear to our hearts. There are times when I stand at the top of the stairs of the main office or sit under the oak tree and take it all in; the tradition, the energy, the love and care this school provides to these boys who will someday become men.

As such, I owe a debt to this school. It made my son what he is today. It has given him the tools and grit to match a rigorous educational curriculum, developed in him a love of competition, and given him a desire to be the best he can be. It has also given him a network of close friends (a Bond of Brothers), and instilled in him the value of scholarship, leadership, and integrity.

Your sons are at The Academy during a very challenging period in our history — one that has and will test our mettle, resolve, and resiliency as a community and a people. For the next school year, those qualities will be put to the test as your sons undergo a challenging education curriculum and leader development experience.

My office will always be open to you, so please contact me if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns at 210-733-7331.

Thank you,
Col(Ret.) Steve Marshall
