SgtMaj Delvin Smythe
Sergeant Major Delvin Smythe was born in Peekskill, N.Y., and grew up in Phoenix, where he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1987. He spent 30 years serving and leading Marines. SgtMaj Smythe has seen duty in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Kuwait, Cuba, aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, and more. He spent the early stages of his career in transportation and corrections. The latter years of his career, he served with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, Heavy Helicopters Squadron 462, and 3rd Battalion 12th Marine Regiment Artillery. He retired after back-to-back assignments as the air station Sergeant Major at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa, Japan, and MCAS Yuma, Ariz. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he spent one year at Tolleson High School in Phoenix as an MCJROTC Instructor. The following year, he moved to Texas to work as a Drill Instructor at Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, TX, and spent the last three years at MMA as the Commandant of Cadets.
