Bio - Col (Ret.) Steve Marshall

Colonel Marshall enlisted into the Texas Army National Guard as a traditional Guardsman in April of 1980.  He spent two years as an enlisted soldier before graduating from Officer Candidate School as the class's Honor Graduate. Commissioned a second lieutenant of Infantry, he started his career with the same Infantry Regiment his grandfather fought with in France during WWI. He served as a rifle and scout platoon leader.

Upon accepting a position on Active Duty, Col Marshall transferred to the Medical Service Corps where he completed a variety of operational command and staff positions in both medical units and support units. He served in positions of responsibility throughout the world to include Central and South America, Germany, the Czech Republic, Egypt, and Afghanistan. He has also served as the Assistant Professor of Military Science at Prairie View A&M University and as a visiting instructor to the Department of Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute.

In his last assignment, Col Marshall served as Deputy Army Surgeon and prior to that, spent two tours in Afghanistan as the Senior Medical Advisor to the Afghan National Army's Central Corps. Col Marshall's military education includes Infantry Officer Basic, the Army Medical Departments Officer Basic and Advanced Course, the Combined Arms Service and Support Staff College, the Army's Command and General Staff College, and the Marine Corps Command Staff College. He is a graduate of Austin High School in Austin, Texas, a Graduate of Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas, and has completed graduate work in Education at Texas State and Prairie View A&M Universities.

His decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor and four Oak Leaf Clusters, and the NATO Service Medal. He earned the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Field Medical Badge, and the Combat Medical Badge. His foreign awards include the Bolivian Military Health Medal and the German Army Proficiency Badge in Gold.

After 30 years of service, Col Marshall retired in 2010 and lives in San Antonio. He currently serves as the Commandant at San Antonio Academy. His wife of 38 years, Dr. Glory Marshall, is an Orthodontist, and they have one son, J.B., a recent graduate of West Point and Armor Officer assigned to the 1^st Armored Brigade, 3^rd Infantry Division.
