April 15, 2020 Online Learning Grading Policy
We hope this message finds you healthy and safe. After thoughtful discussions with the administration and faculty, we are pleased to share SAA's plan for addressing grades for the remainder of this school year. We understand that our students and families are experiencing unique and unexpected challenges during this time, and we want to provide as much support as possible to ensure our students' success. We are asking our students to do their best throughout the remainder of the school year, while we also know they are facing new challenges and unpredictable disruptions which are not their fault. Therefore, we are proceeding with a mindset of grace and forbearance as we implement the grading expectations for the remainder of the school year.
Respectfully,
Clint DuBose Kimberly Dunn Patrick Atkerson Tanya Weis
Head of School Asst. Head of School Dir. of Curriculum Primary School Dir.
Pre-K and Kinder: - All grades for the second semester will be recorded as P (progressing) or N (needs improvement).
First and Second: - Term 5 report card has the letter M recorded for all subjects indicating grades were medically excused due to the school closure and transition to online learning.
- First and second-grade students' final grading period will be recorded as E, S, P, N, or U including reading and mathematics.
Upper School (Grades 3-8): - Grades for terms 1 - 4 were completed before the school closure. These grades will remain on the report card as part of your son's permanent record.
- Term 5 was disrupted with the school closure and transition to an online learning model. The report card has the letter M recorded for term 5 indicating grades were medically excused, so it will not be calculated into a final average.
- Teachers will assign work and collect grades during term 6.
- Students will not have final exams. Instead, instruction will continue through the last day of school.
- Your son's final average will be the greater of either the average of terms 1-4 or terms 1,2,3,4, and 6. This will provide the opportunity for your son to raise his average, but will not penalize those who are having difficulties during this time.
- Special considerations will be made for students who have health, technological, or other issues that impact his performance during term 6. Students, or parents, need to communicate with the teachers, or Mrs. Dunn if any of these situations occur.
