March 5
Dear SAA Families,
Currently, the key recommendations from public health agencies to prevent the spread of coronavirus continue to be regular, thorough handwashing, and symptomatic individuals remaining home rather than going to work or school. We ask that anyone in our school community with signs of respiratory illness or flu-like symptoms remain at home. While the total number of coronavirus cases in the U.S. remains relatively small, experts state this number will likely grow in the coming weeks and there have been confirmed cases in the San Antonio area. Therefore, we will remain vigilant in monitoring the situation.
Steps Taken On Campus
- We are in contact with the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District and local health officials to monitor the overall situation. The high-traffic surfaces are being cleaned often each day, and the campus will get a thorough cleaning over Spring Break.
- Our students are being reminded of the following:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Tell your parents and the nurse when you feel sick.
- Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of your elbow when you cough or sneeze.
- When possible, use a tissue to cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing-then wash your hands.
It is also important to be well informed. The CDC's website is being updated regularly and can provide you with information.
Over the holiday break, some families may have plans to travel abroad, and while international travel does not automatically increase a risk of exposure to others upon your return, we ask that you be fully aware of current travel bans and warnings. We will continue to monitor the situation and work with our local health officials to ensure we are familiar with the latest news surrounding this respiratory illness. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me.
We wish you a safe and happy Spring Break.
