Zachry Brothers - Alumni Monday Presentation

For Alumni Monday on February 3, 2025, San Antonio Academy welcomed back three alumni brothers—Bart Zachry ‘11, Joe Zachry ‘12, and Will Zachry ‘15—for a panel discussion with Semmes Foundation Head of School, Mr. Paul Quick. During their presentation, the brothers shared their experiences at SAA and reflected on the skills that have shaped their personal and professional lives.

As "Academy Lifers," the Zachry brothers spent all ten years of their early education at SAA. After graduating, Bart attended Alamo Heights High School while his two younger brothers attended Saint Mary's Hall. All three went on to earn degrees from Texas A&M University and now work for Zachry Group, a successful construction and engineering company founded by their great-grandfather H.B. Zachry.

Leadership, accountability, and strong academics emerged as common themes throughout the discussion. Bart credited The Academy’s Military Leadership Program and competitive athletics for instilling leadership qualities that have served him well beyond graduation. Joe emphasized the strength of SAA’s academics, noting how well-prepared he felt entering high school. Will highlighted the importance of accountability, citing the daily discipline required by the school’s Military Leadership Program.

When asked about their fondest memories, all three agreed that the people—classmates, teachers, and staff—made SAA truly special. Bart shared how six of his childhood classmates stood beside him as groomsmen at his wedding, a testament to the lifelong bonds formed at The Academy.

The brothers also offered advice to current students. Joe reassured eighth graders that SAA prepares them more than they realize for the next step in their education. Will encouraged students to be intentional about maintaining friendships after graduation, while Bart reminded them to return to campus often and stay connected with their SAA roots.

A lighthearted moment came when the alumni confessed to minor school-day mischief. From chewing scotch tape to receiving a conduct referral in Spanish class, each story carried a lesson—whether about sportsmanship, self-discipline, or the power of words.

As the discussion concluded, the alumni left students with a simple yet poignant message: cherish your time at SAA, embrace the challenges, and always remember the values instilled in you.
