On April 21, 2025, San Antonio Academy welcomed back alumnus Terrell Miller, class of 1999, for a heartfelt and inspiring visit. He returned to campus to share memories, life lessons, and a message of gratitude and personal growth with students and faculty.

Terrell recounted the early days of commuting from his family’s cattle and hay ranch in Boerne, Texas, to SAA. He praised his mother for her unwavering commitment to his education, reflected in the hundreds of daily miles his mother drove to bring him to school, a commitment he now recognizes as foundational to his success. 

He spotlighted several educators who left a lasting impact on his life: Mr. Barry Bradley, who sparked his interest in politics and taught him to respect differing opinions. Other teachers mentioned were Mr. Karl Graf, whose eighth-grade geometry project involved helping build playground equipment, emphasizing service, and earning Terrell his only math medal; and former Headmaster Mr. John Webster, who instilled the importance of honesty, kindness, and striving for excellence.

Perhaps the most memorable moment was his story of forging his mother's signature in fifth grade, an act that led to a powerful lesson in honesty, thanks to his English teacher, Ms. Barbara Williams, who was present in the audience and recognized with warm applause.

Terrell’s journey led him to Texas A&M University, where he was a proud member of the Corps of Cadets and earned the prestigious Hollingsworth Trophy. Today, he leads as the Chairman of Bill Miller Bar-B-Q, which now boasts 81 locations across South Texas.

Closing his remarks, he challenged students to "have the courage to be honest, be kind, and be the best you can be." With sincerity, Terrell reminded the SAA boys of the strength of character that begins with a good education and the people who make it possible.
