Jim Yancy - Class of 1966 (Alumni Monday Speaker)

It was a privilege to welcome back SAA alumnus Jim Yancy, Class of 1966, as our Alumni Monday speaker during chapel on Monday, December 4. Jim and his family have been supporting The Academy with a family legacy for over 60 years. He and his brother both attended, as well as his two sons Will Yancy '05 and Wes Yancy '08, and plan to continue the legacy with his grandson Charles.

During his chapel talk, Jim shared many great memories of his time at The Academy. To go along with his presentation, he also brought some of his own memorabilia, including his football helmet, the horn he played when he was in the band, his medals and trophies, and his letterman sweater.

He gave many examples of how to learn valuable lessons in everyday situations, like when he learned how to always be prepared from the time when he forgot his football uniform for a game and couldn't play. He learned valuable lessons and how to be a better person of character that set him up for a successful future.

At the conclusion of his presentation, Jim expressed plenty of gratitude for the opportunity both he and his sons had at The Academy. "This school taught me to work hard, be independent, and be myself," he said, "and I'm grateful for what this school taught my sons while they were students here."

He concluded by encouraging the boys to have fun learning, be competitive and make friendships, and always be the best they can be.
