San Antonio Academy welcomed back third-generation alumnus Griffin Rubin, class of 2009, as the Alumni Monday speaker on September 22, 2025. He shared his personal journey, family legacy at SAA, and life lessons rooted in the school’s enduring motto: "Be honest. Be kind. Be the best you can be."

Griffin, now a litigator based in Dallas, reflected on his path since graduating from The Academy. After attending Saint Mary’s Hall, he studied at the University of Pennsylvania and later earned his law degree from SMU’s Dedman School of Law. His career has included the honor of clerking for Judge Amos Mazzant in Sherman, Texas, and later for the Honorable Irma Carrillo Ramirez, the first Latina to serve on the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

He also highlighted his family’s deep ties to The Academy. His grandfather, Jay Lewis Rubin, graduated in 1940, followed by his father, Joe Rubin ’73, and uncle, Jamo Rubin, MD ’76. The family’s legacy includes the Joseph Rubin Trophy, also known as the Colonel’s Cup, presented at Commencement each year to honor "the highest general scholarship" and Colonel W.T. Bondurant Sr. and Griffin’s great-grandfather, Joseph Rubin.

In his remarks, Griffin encouraged the boys to carry SAA’s values into their lives beyond campus. He emphasized honesty as a reputation built over time, kindness as a true mark of strength, and striving to be one’s best—not perfect, but better each day. Quoting both Shakespeare and Hemingway, Rubin reminded the boys that integrity and growth define real success.

Now serving on The Academy’s Alumni Board, Griffin closed by expressing gratitude for the unique role that SAA has played in his family’s history and his own personal development.
