George Spencer – Class of 1996 (Alumni Monday Speaker)

On Monday, March 16, 2026, San Antonio Academy welcomed alumnus George Spencer '96 back to campus as the featured guest for the first edition of the Bond of Brothers Podcast: Alumni Monday Edition.

George Spencer

After graduating from SAA, Spencer attended Saint Mary’s Hall for high school before continuing to Princeton University. He later earned a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University and an MBA from Drexel University. Spencer spent 15 years as a broadcast journalist, earning six Emmy Awards, and is now the founder and principal of Totus Strategies, a boutique public relations and marketing agency.

During his conversation with students, Spencer shared stories from his years at The Academy, where he began as a kindergartener. He reflected on memorable experiences across campus and spoke about the teachers who influenced his path, including Mr. Moore, who helped him develop the writing and communication skills that later shaped his career in journalism. Spencer also shared memories of Academy traditions such as Field Day, daily lunches with classmates, and participating in the Alamo Honor Guard at the Battle of Flowers Parade.

Spencer encouraged students to begin exploring their passions by paying attention to what interests them most and what they enjoy learning about. He also spoke about the importance of gratitude, explaining that being thankful for what we have allows us to treat others with kindness- an idea closely connected to The Academy’s motto, Be honest. Be kind. Be the best you can be.® Spencer reminded students to finish the school year strong and continue working toward their goals.
