Drew Kennedy - Class of 2011 Honorary Alumnus (Alumni Monday Speaker)

It was a great privilege to welcome back SAA honorary alumnus Drew Kennedy '11 as our Alumni Monday speaker during chapel on Monday, December 11. Mr. Kennedy became a teacher at The Academy in 1971 and lived out his entire career here, assuming many different roles. He talked to the boys about his many memories throughout the years and all the things he was a part of as the school grew into what it is today.

After graduating from college in 1971, Mr. Kennedy was given an opportunity to teach at SAA as a math teacher. During his many years working here, he played many roles, such as dorm proctor, teacher, coach, associate head of school, principal, and much more.

He had many people to thank, including the Bondurant family and the class of 1971, who were the first classes he taught in his career. He mentioned that the boys in that class also taught him a lot about how to be a teacher and everything that comes with it.

He also spoke of the many moments in SAA history that were special to him, including all the groundbreaking astronauts who visited the school and meeting greats like Tex Hill.

There were many memories and stories Mr. Kennedy shared with us this morning, and he concluded by encouraging the boys to remember to be open, teachable, coachable, a positive role model, prepared, and most of all, to "Be Honest. Be Kind. Be the best you can be."®
