Beginning with a heartfelt nod to Colonel Bondurant, Jr., David reminisced about the impactful role the headmaster played during his formative years. A teacher of Latin, English, and the commanding presence behind the Military Leadership Program, David expressed gratitude, stating, "Much of what I learned from him, I continue on to this day.”

A familiar face around campus, David volunteers with the Leadership Program, helping to facilitate drill and inspections, and also serves on the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Many times, you might find him donning a bowtie or seersucker jacket—an homage he pays to Colonel Bondurant's distinctive style.

David’s Academy roots span generations, including his brother Steven '88, son Nicholas (5th grade), nephew Douglas (4th grade), and even mother, Ernestine, who served as the school nurse for many years and continues to sub to this day.

Reflecting on his post-Academy years, David shared his educational and professional path, emphasizing the transferable skills gained from attending The Academy from 6th-8th grade. From TMI Episcopal for high school to Southern Methodist University for college, and later managing his family’s flower shop, David's story underscores the practical application of leadership, attention to detail, and teamwork cultivated as a young cadet.

A realtor and investment property manager today, David highlighted how seemingly small details on the boys’ uniforms, like having a nametag or gig line straight, teach skills that will help them further down the road.

“In a lot of contracts, everything has to be just right. You’ve got to have that little detail. So, it's the stuff you guys are working on here, it's a lot more than just what you think it is,” said David.

In closing, David emphasized the uniqueness of The Academy's Leadership Program, acknowledging its challenging nature while underscoring the lifelong impact it carries. He also shared heartfelt appreciation by saluting The Academy's teachers and the lasting impact of their teachings.

In David’s words, "The Academy is a family, it's a brotherhood, it's so important, and you guys are so lucky to be here."
