David Akright - Class of 2004 (Alumni Monday Speaker)

On April 7, 2025, San Antonio Academy welcomed back alumnus David Akright, class of 2004, for a heartfelt address to students during chapel for Alumni Monday. David, who began his journey at The Academy as a kindergartner and graduated in 2004, reflected on his time at the school, shared personal stories, and emphasized the lasting impact of the SAA community and values.

He reflected on his years at the school, following in his brothers' footsteps: Brian '98 (who passed away in 2023) and Kevin '01. David shared memories like earning the lead role in the eighth-grade production of Twelfth Night and his early spelling bee days when he tackled words like 'ballerina' and 'nostalgia.'

Reflecting on the enduring influence of The Academy, David praised the faculty and staff, recalling memorable teachers like Mr. Karl Graf, whose passion for teaching algebra helped cultivate more than just academic skills—it instilled curiosity, resilience, and a love of learning. “I can’t remember most of my college professors,” he said, “but I remember nearly every teacher I had at The Academy.”

He also emphasized the importance of leadership and mentorship. He shared a story from a class trip to Disney World, during which an older student carried him on his shoulders for an entire day, a gesture that left a lifelong impression. “Don’t underestimate the impact you can have on the younger students,” David told the upperclassmen. Your example matters.”

He closed by urging students to appreciate their teachers, seize opportunities to lead by example, and cherish the bonds formed at The Academy.
