Connor McGrath, Class of 2018, joined us as the Alumni Monday speaker during chapel on April 29, 2024. Connor, now a student-athlete at Rice University, spoke to the boys about his experiences while at The Academy, emphasizing the importance of brotherhood, academics, and athletics.

Alumni Monday - Connor McGrath

He began by recalling his time at The Academy, expressing gratitude for the privilege of attending school with his older brother, Joe McGrath '13, who he calls his mentor. He encouraged others to cherish such moments with their siblings, highlighting the impact they can have.

Reflecting on his academic journey, Connor fondly remembered the camaraderie among classmates and the guidance of beloved teachers like Mr. Barry Bradley.

The theme of brotherhood also resonated throughout his speech as he celebrated lifelong friendships formed during his time at SAA. He spoke affectionately of his close-knit friend group, emphasizing their close bond despite pursuing different paths after graduation.

Transitioning to athletics, Connor credited The Academy for instilling discipline and resilience, preparing him for both high school and collegiate level sports. He highlighted our athletic program and the amazing coaches, such as Coach Mike Heineman and Coach Leon McNeil, who challenged them to be the best they could be.

He concluded his presentation with a Bible verse shared by one of his mentors, encapsulating the values of strength, faith, and love instilled in him by the SAA community, expressing his gratitude for the lessons learned and the bonds made at The Academy.
