Coates Roberts - Class of 2010 (Alumni Monday Speaker)

San Antonio Academy welcomed alumnus Coates Roberts, class of 2010, back to campus as the Alumni Monday speaker during chapel. He reflected on his years as an “Academy lifer,” having attended SAA from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, and shared how his experiences shaped both his character and career.

Coates, now an oil and gas attorney in San Antonio, captivated students with humorous stories from his school days including a memorable missing snake in a classmate's gym bag moment and fond memories of events like Cowboy Breakfast, Fall Family Fair, and Friday PB&J lunches. He also enjoyed being a member of the color guard. Coates is grateful to have the opportunity to return to SAA for Commencement each May to present The Lt. Col. Robert E. Kelso Color Guard Excellence Award, an award named in honor of Coates' step-grandfather.

He encouraged the boys to appreciate their time at SAA, reminding them that “the brotherhood you’re building now will stay with you for life.” Emphasizing the school’s motto, "Be Honest. Be Kind. Be the Best You Can Be.", he urged students to dream big, work hard, and carry themselves with pride and discipline. “Anything worth having,” he said, “is on the other side of hard work.”

The visit was a meaningful reminder of the lasting impact of an Academy education where lessons in integrity, perseverance, and brotherhood continue to guide alumni long after graduation.
