Chip Touhey, Class of 1983 (Alumni Monday Speaker)

It was a great pleasure to have SAA alumnus Chip Touhey, class of 1983, join us as the Alumni Monday speaker during chapel on May 15, 2023. Mr. Touhey shared the story of his unexpected journey to finding success in the film and television industry. He encouraged our boys that although the future is uncertain and we may never know where it will lead us, to hold onto the values that are learned here at The Academy because they will support you in any circumstance that may arise down the road.

Mr. Touhey graduated from SAA in 1983 and went on to attend Churchill High School, where he was introduced to the subject of speech and debate. This gave him the confidence and idea to go to college to become an actor, but that is not exactly where he would end up when he would attend the College of Santa Fe. Instead, he would be introduced to the world of technical theatre, where he learned stage management. This was the start of a great road to success, where he would eventually end up working in Hollywood on multiple notable movies and television sets.

Mr. Touhey used his story to encourage the boys that although the future is uncertain and will take them to many places they might not even imagine, it is important to stick close to the values and lessons that are being taught to them in these early years. The preparation to be strong men of character and integrity will help them in any situation and will always be of value to them as humans.

Thank you, Mr. Touhey, for sharing your story with us and giving us some important and encouraging words to take with us.
