Waddy Armstrong, Class of 1988 (Alumni Monday Speaker)

Waddy Armstrong ’88 joined us as our Alumni Monday speaker this week and was interviewed on stage by his younger classmate and SAA’s Director of Admissions, Gary Marvin ’89.

A phenomenal painter, Waddy spoke on his experience at The Academy and how it influenced his career. Growing up, he loved to draw, and would even sell comics he made to his classmates. In the 8th grade, he won a school art contest, where his drawings were selected to be on the cover of the school yearbook, “The Bluebonnet” (see photo of Waddy and Gary with the 1987-88 yearbook).

Waddy attended art school after college, worked in New York for a while, and later returned to San Antonio, opening an art studio near the Pearl.

He shared his favorite SAA memory of going to Mr. Webster’s office to get gummy worms (a tradition that we continue to this day).
