Eduardo Alfaro, Class of 1978, Interviewed by 8th Grader Ian Hutchens

In case you missed it, earlier this month, we had a special Chapel where 8th grader Ian Hutchens interviewed a family friend and SAA alumnus, Eduardo Alfaro ’78.

Did you know that SAA had a boarding program up until 1998? Eduardo and his brother, Fernando, were boarding students from El Salvador. He spoke about what it was like living at SAA 7 days a week, and being a 13-year-old boy more than 1,000 miles away from his parents.

“Life as a boarder was a pretty structured environment,” he said. “Life revolved around being at school for the entire year. I went home for spring break, summer break, and Christmas.”

After SAA, Eduardo attended TMI Episcopal as a boarder and the University of Texas – Austin. He continues to reside in San Antonio to this day.

Fun fact: Mr. Bradley started teaching at The Academy in 1977, and Eduardo was in Mr. Bradley’s first graduating class in 1978.
