Alston Beinhorn - Class of 1965 (Alumni Monday Speaker)

On October 2, 2023, we had the honor of hosting San Antonio Academy alumnus, Alston Beinhorn, class of 1965, as our Alumni Monday speaker during Chapel. During his presentation, Alston spoke to our boys about his life experiences, Academy experiences, and the meaning of leadership.

Alston Beinhorn - Alumni Monday

After graduating from SAA in 1965, Alston went to TMI Episcopal for high school and then attended Amherst College in Massachusetts. After college, Alston worked in finance for Citibank for the majority of his career, which allowed him to live and travel for business to places around the world like Singapore, London, and Paris, among others.

He spoke to our boys about leadership and credited The Academy and its Military Leadership Program for his early understanding of what it means to be a leader. He listed off the qualities of a good leader and gave examples of exceptional leadership through his former instructors and other staff, such as Col. W.T. Bondurant Sr., whom he described as inspirational.

"Most importantly, true leaders will also do the right thing, even if it hurts them personally," said Alston. "They look far beyond their personal situation, for the good of others they’re meant to serve and lead."

Alston concluded by sharing some of his Academy memories and his personal passion for flying as a private pilot.

"Being the Pilot in Command in a private plane, with the controls in your hands and the horizon just in front of you is a thrilling experience I recommend to each of you," he added.

Thank you, Mr. Alston Beinhorn, for sharing with us such interesting experiences and leaving us with great examples of the qualities of leadership.
