Loyd Walter Powell III (SAA Class of 1992)
August 18, 1977 - November 19, 2024
Loyd Walter Powell III, Walt, died November 19, 2024, in his hometown of San Antonio, TX. Born on August 18, 1977, to Celeste Altgelt Dullnig and Loyd Walter Powell Jr.
Walt attended The San Antonio Academy and Saint Mary's Hall. He was a proud member of the San Antonio Academy Class of 1992 and the Saint Mary's Hall Class of 1996. Continuing his education, Walt attended Texas Tech University and later honed his skills in land stewardship at the TCU Ranch Management program, graduating in the Class of 2000. These experiences shaped his understanding and respect for the land, a theme that would resonate throughout his life.
Walt was an old soul who believed in the value of a handshake and meeting face to face. He loved the outdoors, hunting and ranching. He was a skilled builder and welder and was always designing and constructing new projects. His friends will fondly remember countless hours sitting around the campfire telling old stories and laughing with each other. He was a Lifetime Member of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, a member of The Order of the Alamo, The San Antonio German Club, and The San Antonio Country Club.
Walt's life was enriched by his loving family. He leaves behind his wife, Virginia Frnka Powell, and their sons, Reed Altgelt Powell and Alfred Dullnig Powell, who were his pride and joy, his mother, Celeste Altgelt Dullnig, his father, George Rolle Dullnig, his brother, Jordan Altgelt Dullnig, and his wife Brittney, and many other loved ones. Walt was preceded in death by his father Loyd Walter Powell Jr, grandparents, Dolly and Woodward Altgelt, and Margaret and George Dullnig.
