Martin Ross Flannery (SAA Class of 1959)

July 12, 1945April 14, 2023

Martin Ross Flannery passed away on April 14th, 2023, at the age of 77. Martin was known by close friends and family as Corky, his childhood nickname. He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on July 12, 1945, to John Oge Flannery and Dorothy Louise Bachtel. Martin was predeceased by his mother and father, and his brother, John Oge Flannery, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Britsch Flannery, his younger brother, Michael Flannery and his daughters Teresa Morin and husband Darren Scroggins, Veronica Flannery, Tamara Bolch, and husband Joshua Bolch. Martin was very proud of his beautiful grandchildren Ashley, Alexis, Samuel, Noah, Holly, Caroline, Luke, Daniel, and great-grandchildren Mariah and Cebastian.

He attended San Antonio Academy and graduated high school from Texas Military Institute. Martin was very proud of serving his country as a navy corpsman during the Vietnam War. The medical training that he experienced during his time with the navy led him later to pursue a degree in nursing from San Antonio College. Martin worked as a registered nurse for many years and enjoyed serving the people he cared for. For many years, Martin also had the privilege of working for H&S Associates where he helped in training certified nurse assistants.

One of Martin’s favorite hobbies was spending time in the garage refurbishing and working on the engine of his ’69 blue and white Volkswagen Beetle. He was a member of the Volkswagen Owners of San Antonio Club and won several awards at various car shows. Martin also enjoyed putting together model cars, reading a good mystery novel, and watching sports or sci-fi movies with his brothers. His joking nature and love for silliness made it hard at times to find a serious photo of him. He always sincerely cared about what was happening in the lives of his children and grandchildren, while always encouraging and praising them in their endeavors. Martin’s bright and joyful presence will be missed by many.
