Lawrence Tucker Biedenharn (SAA Class of 1972)

November 8, 1956­–July 25, 2023

Lawrence Tucker Biedenharn passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on July 25, 2023 surrounded by his beloved wife of 38 years, Carolyn, and his three children, Kahler, Tucker, and Allie.

He was born on November 8, 1956, at the Nix Hospital in San Antonio to Betty and Albert Biedenharn, Jr. He attended San Antonio Academy, Alamo Heights High School, and graduated from Texas Military Institute. He often shared wonderful memories of those years that included legendary football games in the neighborhood and weekends at the ranch in Boerne, with his trusty pellet gun in tow.

Throughout his childhood and schooling at Menlo College and Trinity University, Larry was aware of the unique and distinguished legacy he inherited. Immediately out of school, Larry joined the Biedenharn family business, Coca-Cola Bottling of the Southwest. Larry B. was the Real Thing! He knew all the employees at the Coke plant by name and was often invited to their parties long after the business was sold. He was very proud of his family’s history with Coca-Cola and often told delightful and amusing stories about the company and his family’s involvement. Larry later became a partner at the Osborn family business, Osborn Heirs Company, an independent Oil & Gas Exploration company.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to fish and spent many happy times catching billfish off the coasts of Texas, Florida, and Mexico. He loved to hunt and spend time in South Texas. But his favorite place on earth was Osborn Island on Lake of the Woods in Canada. Shore lunches, walleye, and musky fishing with friends and family made his summers idyllic.

Often described as “the nicest guy they’d ever met,” Larry brought love and laughter into the lives of everyone he knew. He was incredibly thoughtful and kind, and made people feel valued the moment they met. His deep, unmistakable laugh could be recognized from across the room–as he exuberantly rubbed his hands together when he got excited about anything.

He loved his pets and his pets loved him. His mother once joked that if she could, she wanted to “come back” as Larry’s dog.

Larry was a member of the Texas Order of St. Hubertus, the Texas Cavaliers, The Order of the Alamo, the German Club, San Antonio Country Club, The Argyle, Club Giraud, Sam’s Club, the Petroleum Club, and Alcoholics Anonymous (36 years of sobriety).

His family was the light of his life. He loved his parents, his siblings, Albert M. Biedenharn III, Jewel Biedenharn Crosswell, and Charles O. Biedenharn, each of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gruy Biedenharn; his daughter, Kahler Biedenharn Marlow and husband Kristian; son, Lawrence “Tucker” Biedenharn, Jr. and wife Sarah (Nunley); daughter, Allison Timberlake Biedenharn; and his grandsons, Conrad Osborn Marlow and Lawrence “Henry” Biedenharn.

He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Katheryn A. Biedenharn; Clayton G. Erikson, husband Shel; Lisa G. Brandt, husband Wayne; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary.

The family wishes to express gratitude to the doctors who helped him as he grappled with his diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: Dr. Mark Thornton, Dr. Anoop Nambiar, Dr. Philippe Bauer, and Dr. Ben Stephens.
