Family of Louis Jordan, SAA Class of 1911, Retraces His Educational Journey on Campus

Louis Jordan, SAA Class of 1911, a standout athlete at the University of Texas, served as football team captain and was named a Walter Camp All-American. Sadly, he became the first SAA graduate and the first Texas officer killed in World War I. In his memory, the SAA Corps of Cadets was established.

Recently, SAA welcomed the family members of Louis Jordan to campus for a visit with Semmes Foundation Head of School Paul Quick and Sergeant Major Delvin Smythe and for a campus tour. Family members David Winter and Paul Hartmann are in the process of researching Louis' educational journey in preparation to publish a book about his life and legacy. Although his home was in Fredericksburg, Louis attended SAA at age 20 for only one year before college. After graduating from UT Austin, Louis returned to SAA to coach football.

SAA 8th graders have a great tradition of honoring Louis Jordan's sacrifice and legacy during their yearly trip to Enchanted Rock.

We look forward to reading the new book once published!
