Please join us for a humorous, practical, and science-based presentation from New York Times bestselling author Dr. Michael Gurian, as he focuses on how to help boys succeed in school and in life. Based on more than 30 years of research in brain science, education, and practical parenting, Dr. Gurian traces how a boy’s learning and social-emotional mind grow, how girls and boys learn and grow differently, and how cultural upbringing influences our children today.

A marriage and family counselor in private practice, Dr. Gurian brings to life the developmental science of boys’ minds and the practical methods to use in educating and raising them. He will also focus on learning and life difficulties that boys face as a distinct group, including the effects of digital life on the growing brain. An advocate for boy-friendly education, Dr. Gurian will highlight how San Antonio Academy utilizes brain science to help boys learn and grow.

Dr. Gurian has been called “the people’s philosopher” for his ability to dynamically combine cutting-edge science with stories from people’s everyday lives. If you have daughters, the comparative male/female brain information in his talk will be eye-opening about girls, too. Dr. Gurian's presentation gives audiences a powerful vision of what boys and girls need, new tools to interpret their emotional signals, and new confidence to raise and educate them in a high-pressure world.

Dr. Michael Gurian is a marriage and family counselor and the author of 32 books, including Saving Our Sons, The Minds of Boys, and Boys and Girls Learn Differently. As a social philosopher, he has pioneered efforts to bring neurobiology and brain research into homes, schools, corporations, and public policy.  The Gurian Institute, which he co-founded, conducts research internationally, launches pilot programs, and trains professionals.
