Tom Holshouser - Class of 2007 (Alumni Monday Speaker)
On December 16, 2024, Tom Holshouser, class of 2007, returned to San Antonio Academy to deliver an inspiring Alumni Monday speech celebrating the enduring bonds of friendship and brotherhood forged at SAA.
Tom, who attended The Academy from Pre-K through eighth grade, shared fond memories of his time at the school, highlighted by his involvement in sports, chess, and serving as the eighth-grade Color Guard Commander.
Tom, now a finance specialist at the cybersecurity company SecureWorks, reflected on the values and mentorship instilled during his Academy years. He recounted humorous and heartwarming moments, from his role as Lady Macbeth in the eighth grade play to winning a go-kart at the Fall Family Fair and learning valuable life lessons from teachers like Mr. Brendan Moore and Mr. Charles Turner.
He emphasized the unique camaraderie among Academy students, encouraging the boys to treasure their friendships. “Look around you,” he said, “the guys sitting next to you will be your lifelong friends, your college roommates, and your best men. Academy friendships are built to last.” He urged students to embrace kindness, teamwork, and the courage to resolve conflicts, drawing on the proverb, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Tom concluded by reminding the boys that the bonds they form at The Academy will stand the test of time, shaped by shared experiences, values, and loyalty.
