SAA Students Compete for a Cause in Successful Food Drive

Posted December 5, 2024

The San Antonio Academy community has once again demonstrated its commitment to community service, wrapping up the annual Holiday Food Drive in support of the San Antonio Food Bank. The two-week effort, which saw an outpouring of donations, concluded before Thanksgiving Break with a total of 12,652 pounds of food collected. This year’s contributions bring The Academy’s three-year food drive totals to more than 46,000 pounds!

During a special chapel service held on December 3 in honor of Gratitude Tuesday, the totals and top contributing grades were announced, expressing our appreciation to the SAA community for their support.

Food Drive

During the collection period, SAA students were energized by friendly competition as grade levels competed for prizes, including a pizza party and free dress day for the top two grades with the most donations. This year, 4th and 2nd grades emerged victorious, while Pre-K, 1st grade, and 4th grade earned a special dessert during lunch for achieving 100% participation.

In line with the Food Bank’s mission, donations were limited to their "12 Most Wanted" items, including shelf-stable foods, baby supplies, and pet food. This year, pet food donations will benefit the food bank’s partner, Daisy Cares, a program supporting families with pets in need.

Again, thank you to the amazing SAA community who helped us raise an incredible amount of food to help families in need across the San Antonio area.
