SAA Rocks! Fall Family Fair Raises Record-Breaking $100,000

Posted November 1, 2024

The San Antonio Academy community came together on Saturday, October 19, 2024, for the annual Fall Family Fair, a beloved Academy tradition of nearly four decades. This year’s theme, “SAA Rocks!,” echoed throughout the festivities as over 500 attendees enjoyed an evening of lively entertainment, family fun, and generous support of the school’s mission.

Chaired by Kelly Leddy and Kali Tripp, the fair featured activities for all ages, including a range of bounce houses, carnival games, the ever-popular 8th-grade haunted house, and a cakewalk featuring many festively decorated treats up for grabs. This year's new highlight was a live performance by the band LC Rocks, which kept the crowd entertained and rocking out throughout the evening. Attendees also enjoyed a variety of carnival foods and tested their luck at drop-in-the-bucket for a chance to win exciting prizes.

Fall Family Fair: SAA Rocks

Beyond the fun and fellowship, the Fall Family Fair serves as one of San Antonio Academy’s most important fundraising events. Through ticket sales, donations, and sponsorships, the fair raised $100,000, a record-breaking amount for the event. Funds will go toward programs designed to enrich the learning experience for San Antonio Academy boys.

“The Fall Family Fair is a fantastic way to raise funds for programs that enrich our boys’ experience here at The Academy and help us to continue to create the exceptional,” said Semmes Foundation Head of School Paul M. Quick. "We'd like to thank the chairs and the committee for their dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work in making this fair a record-breaking success!"

Fall Family Fair SAA Rocks

With roots dating back to 1986, when Marion Jeffers and Suzanne Armstrong founded it to celebrate The Academy’s centennial, the Fall Family Fair remains one of SAA’s many treasured traditions. The event embodies the school’s family-like atmosphere, drawing together students, parents, grandparents, alumni, and faculty in support of the school they love so much.

This year’s success would not have been possible without the contributions of countless sponsors, committee members, and volunteers who helped make the 39th Annual Fall Family Fair an event to remember.

Athletic Achievements

Over the past year, Wildcat athletes gave us much to celebrate. Whether attending early morning cross-country practices or soccer matchups played at Classic Elite Sports Complex, the Middle School athletics teams demonstrated leadership, integrity, and brotherhood through both individual and team triumphs. Here, we celebrate a year of standout achievements from the field, the court, and beyond.

Foster Jenne Fraternitas Friday

On most Fridays during The Academy’s school year, an 8th grader steps up to the chapel podium to deliver a “Fraternitas Friday” speech for the entire school body, reflecting on one of the school’s core values. In the final presentation of the year, Foster Jenné offered a heartfelt message on brotherhood, honoring his older and younger buddies who helped shape his Academy experience, and also inviting each of his fellow Class of 2025 brothers to join him on stage in a powerful display of unity.

8th grade trip

In the final stretch of the school year, each San Antonio Academy grade, from curious Pre-K boys to graduating 8th-grade leaders, embarked on a purpose-driven End-of-Year Culminating Experience. Designed to extend learning beyond the classroom, each grade-level trip reflected The Academy’s mission to provide an exceptional education intentionally crafted for boys. Whether navigating high ropes courses, trekking the Grand Canyon, or tracing the paths of Texas history, each adventure is anchored in the school’s core values of scholarship, leadership, integrity, and brotherhood.

Gather Under the Oak Tree

Generations of Academy alumni gathered for a memorable evening at our annual Gather Under the Oak Tree event. Two dozen alumni spanning the classes of 1959 to 2015, returned to their elementary and middle school alma mater for an evening that honored the past while looking confidently towards the future. Highlights included a "State of The Academy" update, a symbolic walk through the Bondurant Gate, and a nostalgic campus tour.
