October is Dyslexia Awareness Month

Dyslexia Awareness Month is recognized every October. It’s an important time not only to raise awareness about this learning difference but also to encourage early detection and support for those who have it.

Dyslexia is a common neurological condition that primarily affects the brain's ability to process language, impacting reading fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. It often affects writing and spelling as well. It’s important to remember that dyslexia is not a reflection of intelligence or effort; rather, it is a specific learning disability rooted in how the brain processes language.

Studies show early intervention is key. San Antonio Academy is deeply committed to providing students with early intervention and support. Studies show that intervention starting as early as Kindergarten can result in gains twice that of students who receive their first intervention in later grades.

SAA Boys Lend Helping Hands for Catholic Charities’ Project Turkey Box

In the spirit of service and gratitude, San Antonio Academy joined forces with Catholic Charities of San Antonio to support Project Turkey Box, a community initiative providing Thanksgiving meals to families in need. Over the course of three days, boys from every grade level worked to transform banana boxes into cheerful vessels for holiday dinners. Each box was wrapped, decorated, and included a handwritten Thanksgiving note. The small gesture will soon bring joy and nourishment to homes across San Antonio this holiday season. With Catholic Charities’ goal of preparing 500 boxes, Academy students made a significant contribution toward meeting that milestone. The project, held just a short walk from campus, offered boys a firsthand look at how small acts of service can make a big impact.
