Michael McLaughlin - Class of 2006 (Alumni Monday Speaker)
Posted March 3, 2025
On March 3, 2025, SAA alumnus Michael McLaughlin, class of 2006, returned to campus to share memories and valuable life lessons with the boys. Through humor, nostalgia, and heartfelt advice, he emphasized the importance of brotherhood, kindness, and embracing the present.
Now an investment professional, husband, and father of three, Michael reflected on his journey from his time at The Academy to Auburn University and later earning an MBA from SMU. He now serves as Assistant Vice President and Site Division Manager at Capitol Group - "helping people save money."
He recounted a memorable eighth-grade trip to Houston, where a misunderstanding led to a late-night wrestling match, a broken collarbone, and an unexpected lesson in forgiveness. Reflecting on that experience, he encouraged students to always support one another and value the friendships they form at SAA.
Michael also urged students to avoid looking back with regret, reminding them to fully engage in their time at The Academy. "Don’t say, 'I would’ve, I could’ve, I should’ve,'" he advised. "Live in the now."
Closing with a reminder that these school years forge lifelong bonds, he emphasized three key lessons: always have your brother’s back, practice kindness, and embrace the present. He reminded them to appreciate their time at The Academy and the friendships they are building.
