The Alumni Association of San Antonio Academy presented the Texas Cavaliers with the 40th Colonel W.T. Bondurant, Sr. Distinguished Humanitarian Award at a special luncheon held at the Witte Museum on Tuesday, November 19.
Named after Col. W.T. Bondurant, Sr., San Antonio Academy’s Head of School from 1927 to 1943, the award recognizes leaders who embody the values he championed: honesty, respect, pride in achievement, and service to others. Past recipients include notable figures such as H. Ross Perot, Jr., Tom C. Frost, and B.J. McCombs. View the full list of past recipients.
The Texas Cavaliers, a historic charitable organization founded in 1926, were recognized for their commitment to bettering the lives of San Antonio area children through numerous programs and events throughout the year. With a membership of over 600 civic leaders, the Cavaliers have distributed more than $8 million through the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation to benefit local charities since its establishment in 1989.
“This recognition means so much to all of us who believe in the importance of helping the future leaders of our city be honest, be kind, and be the best they can be,” said King Antonio CI Scott Christy. “Helping our youth is one of the most important investments we can make — and it’s our responsibility to provide them with the tools, support, and encouragement they need to thrive. Together, we can create a stronger, more connected community where every young person has the chance to succeed. ¡Viva San Antonio Academy!"
San Antonio Academy holds the Texas Cavaliers close to its heart, as generations of Academy fathers, grandfathers, and alumni have proudly served in this historic charitable organization. Their dedication to humanitarian service exemplifies the values and actions that San Antonio Academy seeks to instill in every boy.
The 40th Colonel W.T. Bondurant, Sr. Distinguished Humanitarian Award Luncheon was presented by The Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation and Ashley and Rad Weaver, and raised over $60,000 through ticket sales, sponsorships, and donations. The event is held to support the Col. W. T. Bondurant, Jr. Scholarship Fund, which provides need-based tuition assistance to deserving young men who will flourish in San Antonio Academy’s academic program.
