"Don Quixote de la Mancha": A 7th Grade Production

San Antonio Academy's 7th-grade students transported audiences to 17th-century Spain with their lively production of Miguel de Cervantes' classic novel, "Don Quixote." From the moment guests were welcomed to La Mancha, Ellison Hall came alive with the imaginative world of knights, loyal squires, and "giant monsters" that looked strikingly like windmills.
The story followed Alonso Quijano, whose love of chivalric tales led him to reinvent himself as the daring Don Quixote. Joined by his humorous and ever-hungry companion, Sancho Panza, the duo embarked on a series of adventures where imagination often blurred the line between fantasy and reality.
Performed entirely in Spanish, the 7th grade's production showcased students’ command of the foreign language as well as The Academy's strong emphasis on public speaking. Through expressive physical theater—using movement, facial expressions, and tone—the cast conveyed both the heart of Quixote and the humor of Sancho in a way that all audience members could enjoy.
The program opened with a special performance by 4th-grade students, who sang “The Impossible Dream” from the Broadway musical "Man of La Mancha."

More than 100 parents, grandparents, alumni, and educators filled San Antonio Academy’s Ellison Hall on the evening of Oct. 7 to hear a simple idea: To teach boys well, start by understanding how they learn. The speaker was Dr. Michael Gurian, a best-selling author and co-founder of the Gurian Institute.

San Antonio Academy’s Order of Merit Committee has announced the Battalion leadership positions for the 2026–27 school year. At a ceremony after chapel on Oct. 7, all 8th graders and select 6th and 7th graders were inducted into their new roles. Families of the inductees were invited to attend and pin their sons with their new ranks. Former Battalion Commanders were invited back as well. In attendance were Joseph Shields '05, Christopher Goldsbury ’19, and Matt Silva ’02.

On Monday, September 28th alumnus Jacob Roos ’14 returned to The Academy for Alumni Monday, sharing how the lessons, relationships, and values he gained at SAA continue to shape his life and career. Now a financial advisor and team leader in Austin, Jacob spoke to the boys about leadership, striving for excellence, putting gratitude into action, and the lasting impact of the Academy brotherhood.
