Daniel Nelson - Class of 2023 (Alumni Monday Speaker)

Daniel Nelson - Class of 2023 (Alumni Monday Speaker)

On December 15, 2025, San Antonio Academy welcomed back alumnus Daniel Nelson ’23 for this week’s Alumni Monday presentation. Now a junior at Saint Mary’s Hall, Daniel returned to share memories and advice with the boys. The conversation was made even more special as he was interviewed by his younger brother, Mateo, a current SAA 8th-grader.

Daniel and Mateo Nelson - Alumni Monday

A proud member of Bravo Company during his Academy years, Daniel fondly recalled the fun and traditions that made his time at SAA so memorable, such as the annual Fall Family Fair and Mr. Moore’s 8th Grade Shakespeare Play. He also shared a few lighthearted stories, like getting “lopsided haircuts” during inspection days when he forgot to get a trim.

When asked what he wished he’d taken more seriously, Daniel reflected, “Definitely drill. I used to mess around a lot until I realized how much better things go when everyone’s paying attention and working together.”

His biggest advice to the 8th graders: cherish your time here.“There’s no other place in the world where you’re with the same people for 10, 9, 8 years, and you’re with them every single day. That’s a culture and community you won’t get anywhere else.”

Reflecting on what he carries with him most from his time at The Academy, Daniel said the school taught him the importance of respect for both teachers and others. He shared that this lesson has been essential in high school and beyond, shaping how he approaches relationships and responsibilities each day.

He closed the conversation by reflecting on the lifelong friendships formed during his time at SAA. “Some of my friends I see every weekend, and others it’s just when I see them it’s like nothing left,” he said. A reminder of the lasting bonds and shared experiences that make The Academy community truly special.
