Class of 2022 Returns to Campus Before Beginning College Journeys

On the evening of May 19, members of San Antonio Academy’s Class of 2022 returned to campus for a reunion that marked both a homecoming and the beginning of a new chapter. In just a few days, these young men will graduate from high school and depart for colleges and universities across the state and country.

Wearing shirts representing the schools they will soon attend, the alumni gathered once again in Ellison Hall, the same place where they once began each school day as Academy boys. Many of their former Academy teachers and coaches joined them for an evening centered on reflection, gratitude, and anticipation for the future.

The program included a review of each student’s 8th-grade yearbook page, offering moments of laughter and nostalgia as the young men revisited memories from their final year at The Academy. One of the evening’s most meaningful moments came when the alumni received the “letters to self” they had written years earlier in Mr. Moore’s English class. The letters, sealed away since Middle School, provided a glimpse into the hopes and ambitions they carried as 8th graders.

The reunion also featured surprise visits from retired faculty members Coach Mike Heineman and Mr. Barry Bradley, both longtime figures in the lives of Academy boys. Semmes Foundation Head of School Paul Quick addressed the group with words of encouragement, and after the event, Mr. Turner, a longtime member of the school’s security team and a familiar presence on campus, offered advice to the graduates as they prepare for college life.

The evening served as a reminder of the enduring bond shared among Academy alumni and the lasting influence of the school community. This fall, members of the Class of 2022 will attend institutions including The University of Texas at Austin, Southern Methodist University, High Point University, Pepperdine University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, Trinity University, and Texas Christian University.

San Antonio Academy was honored to welcome these young men and their families back to campus as they prepare for the opportunities ahead.
