7th Graders Present "The Outsiders" Mock Trial
Posted October 24, 2024
San Antonio Academy's 7th-grade English classes transformed into a courtroom for a reenactment of their recently-read novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Under the guidance of SAA English Teacher Dr. Troy Wilson, the boys staged a mock trial centered on the murder of Bob Sheldon, a member of the affluent "Socs" from Tulsa, Oklahoma, with Johnny Cade, a "Greaser," as the defendant.
Students took on a variety of roles essential to a functioning courtroom. They played not only the characters from the novel but also courtroom personnel such as the judge, jury, media, and even sketch artists. A few faculty and staff members joined in, supporting the students as they brought the book’s characters to life.
The students impressed their audience of parents and SAA staff by embodying their characters and demonstrating a deep understanding of the book’s plot and themes. Well done, gentlemen.
