3rd Grade Presents “A Day at the Museum: Portraits of Leadership"
3rd grade day at the museum

San Antonio Academy welcomed families and guests to campus for “A Day at the Museum: Portraits of Leadership,” where 3rd-grade students presented an immersive living museum experience that connects history to their own personal growth.

The event offered more than a traditional academic presentation. This year's introduction of “Portrait Connections” encouraged the student curators to consider how notable figures have shaped their understanding of the four pillars that guide life at The Academy: Scholarship, Leadership, Integrity, and Brotherhood. The result was a museum that felt both meaningful and personal.

The presentations bridged the gap between historic achievement and personal character by putting founders and Alamo defenders like Fray Antonio de Olivares or William B. Travis alongside San Antonio Spurs icons like David Robinson and Tim Duncan.

"This exhibition takes a traditional history showcase and turns it into a real-time look at the next generation of leaders stepping into their own legacy," said SAA's 3rd Grade Teacher, Vanessa Sanchez.

The journey began with the Founders of San Antonio, where students spoke about the founders of our city's historic missions and the legendary defenders of the Alamo. In the Local Sports Icons gallery, they highlighted the icons who transformed San Antonio into a global hub for sporting greatness with stories of discipline, teamwork, and the value of striving for excellence. The San Antonio Academy Leaders & Notable Alumni gallery honored visionary educators who established a tradition of character and individuals whose influence continues to shape the school’s legacy. The final gallery focused on San Antonio Community Leaders, with students reflecting on lives marked by service, courage, and generosity.

As the presentations concluded, it was clear this event was about more than history. It offered a clear view of the growth, character, and confidence developing in each Academy boy.

“A Day at the Museum” reflects San Antonio Academy's emphasis on public displays of understanding, giving boys regular opportunities to speak before an audience, learning to build poise and conviction as they grow into young men prepared to lead with purpose. Special thanks to 3rd-grade teachers Vanessa Sanchez and Brandy Avilla-Morn, to event emcee and retired Academy teacher Barry Bradley, and to the 3rd-grade families who supported their boys with costumes and helped them practice their presentations.
