2023 8th Grade Debate

Posted May 18, 2023

San Antonio Academy's 8th Grade Debate made its return to Ellison Hall on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, as two teams of five went head-to-head in formal discourse in hopes of being named champion.

8th grade debate

The topic up for debate was whether or not artificial intelligence (or A.I.) poses a serious threat to the future of our modern world. The proposing team started the discussion off strong as Antonio S. took the podium to argue his points on why he and his team believe that A.I. is a threat on the rise. His opponent, Judah B., then took the podium and rebutted with his team's view as to why A.I. poses no threat and is actually a tool to enhance everyday lives and the future.

One by one, each 8th-grade boy gave their counterarguments to try and disprove their opponents. The boys worked together and put their research and knowledge to use to successfully persuade the judges and their audience with the best argument and supporting facts to back it up.

Although each team gave very compelling reasons, only one team would be named the 8th-grade debate champions. Coming down to a mere 4-point difference, the proposing team would be named the winner of the debate.
