Welcome New Faculty for 2021-22

Welcome new SAA faculty
 
Jeana Crump will serve as the new 2nd Grade Teacher. She has a Master of Education in Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum with a focus in Literacy Education from the University of Missouri; her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education specializing in Early Childhood from Baylor University; and has a "Lifetime Teaching Certificate" from Texas State. Jeana has served in various team leading roles, and her recent classroom initiatives focus on communicating with her families through digital mediums including blogs, website, and social media.
 
Debbie Oblitas joins SAA as the new 4th Grade Math & History Teacher. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an EC-4 certification from Texas State University. She has 12 years teaching experience which spans across kindergarten, first grade, and her current teaching position in fourth grade, where she collaborates with grade level teachers to implement and monitor ongoing student learning assessments for the data to drive planning, differentiation, and instruction. 
 
Alexandra De Leon Johnson will serve as the new Primary School Spanish Teacher. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English Communications from St. Mary's University; and Spanish Studies in both Spain and Mexico. Teaching since 2005, Alexandra is also a member of the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and a volunteer tutor at the Latino Student Fund. Alexandra's list of recent professional development includes topics covering diversity and the culturally responsive classroom teaching; and is currently part of a steering committee for Anti-Racist Programming.
 
Welcome new SAA faculty
 
Terry Smith  joins SAA as the new 7th & 8th Grade Algebra and Geometry Teacher. He has a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville; and a certification in Texas Secondary Mathematics. He has instructed mathematics for 23 years teaching algebra to middle school and high school students; and has also taught physics and pre-engineering in those grade levels. Terry was the "Spirit of Judson Educator Award Winner" in 2014 at Judson ISD where he was also the district's MATHCOUNTS Coach during the 2013-14 school year.
 
Alisa Spavronskay will serve as the new Upper School Art Teacher. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts specializing in Art Education from Arizona State University; graduating Magna Cum Laude. Alisa has created and planned a visual arts curriculum for high school students using the Texas State standards and was the instructor for a middle school Summer Arts Academy. She has experience instructing a variety of mediums including oil on canvas, scale drawings, mixed media, ceramics, paper mache and cut outs.
 
Laura Bohlmann will serve as the new Primary School Music. She has a Bachelor of Music from Valparaiso University and brings 13 years of teaching music to elementary school-aged children. In her current role as Lower School Music Teacher and Choir Director at St. John's School in Houston, Laura designs and delivers music lessons using the Kodály method including singing, music literacy, classroom instruments, recorder, singing games, and folk dance. She has extensive experience in producing musicals, holiday concerts, and spring show performances. 
 
 
Thomas Meyer joins The Academy as the new 5th Grade English/Language Arts Teacher. Thomas brings to SAA over 25 years of experience in education in which he has served as a classroom teacher, as well as, a principal and vice principal in various schools in San Antonio, New York, and Mexico City.  He holds several degrees from Fordham University, New York, including School Administration and Supervision; a Master of Science in Special Education and Reading; and a Bachelor of Arts in Theology/Sociology from Briar Cliff University, Iowa. 
 
Jessica Garcia will serve as SAA’s new 5th & 6th Grade Math Teacher. For the last 13 years, Jessica has taught elementary and middle school in the Northside Independent School District where she participated in several leadership committees and organizations, as well as mentorships with student teachers. She has her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Incarnate Word; and her PACT Education Certificate from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. 
 
Brandy Avilla-Morn will serve as SAA’s new 3rd Grade Teacher. She has been a teacher for 13 years in the state of Hawaii with experience teaching Kindergarten through 5th grades. In her most current teaching position, Brandy created lesson plans, curriculum maps, and pacing guides for all subject areas in 4th grade where she utilized both online programs and textbooks. She has her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology from Chaminade University in Honolulu, Hawaii.
 
Lauren Ciaburri will serve as SAA’s new Kindergarten Teacher. Since 2012, Lauren has experience teaching Spalding Phonics, Singapore Math, and Core Knowledge to elementary students. Her latest role was the reading intervention specialist and Kindergarten lead teacher at Great Hearts Northern Oaks. Lauren has a Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Relay Graduate School of Education, New York; and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bucknell University, Pennsylvania.
 
Brooke Hatten joins The Academy as the new 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Spanish Teacher. Brooke has over 15 years of teaching experience, with ten of those years being in a private school setting. She has taught all levels of Spanish from elementary through high school and also at the post-secondary level. Brooke has her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and International Business from the University of Wisconsin; and a Masters in Christian School Teaching at Oral Roberts University, Oklahoma.
