Two 5th grade students have been awarded San Antonio Academy’s 2022 Tex Hill Scholarship: Anish Muthuraman, who currently attends St. Gregory the Great Catholic School, and Luke Bright, current SAA student.
The prestigious award provides tuition, leadership fees, textbooks, and a uniform stipend for boys who will attend SAA during their 6th, 7th, and 8th grade years. The three-year Tex Hill Scholarship is valued at more than $75,000, and is awarded without respect to financial need.
Created in 2007, the award seeks to recognize outstanding young men who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, citizenship, and participation in activities, and who demonstrate the potential to become leaders in the school community.
Applications were accepted from students new to The Academy as well as from boys who are currently enrolled. Award decisions were made by the Tex Hill Scholarship Committee, which consists of members of the school community who do not work at SAA or have a child enrolled at The Academy.
In their letters to the scholarship committee, the boys wrote the following:
“SAA is an amazing place because it gives us a great education and wonderful friends to bond with,” said Luke. “I want to be a leader who makes everyone around him be the best they can be.”
“I am applying for this scholarship because I have maintained A/A+ grades across all subjects for the past four years and would like to study in a school that builds my character,” said Anish. “I read that your school leads students to an excellent career, which helps and supports them to be great individuals in the future.”
The scholarship is named for General David Lee “Tex” Hill, a 1928 graduate of San Antonio Academy and member of the famous Flying Tigers during WWII. Generous supporters of Tex Hill and his strong commitment to SAA established an endowment that funds the Tex Hill Scholarship Program. The following quote from Tex Hill is memorialized on the SAA campus: “Work hard and stick to your values. Trust God.”
