The Academy educates boys to succeed in life - scholastically, emotionally and physically. Our program reinforces traditional values, such as love of God and country, kindness and integrity. We teach our students to be good citizens, and we believe that the development of character traits and good leadership qualities is an important part of education.
Curriculum
San Antonio Academy's curriculum provides a strong foundation of academic skills. Students study reading, language arts, social studies, math, science, and foreign languages. Fine arts, music, computer science, library/research skills and physical education broaden their perspective. Detailed online progress reports every three weeks keep parents apprised of each student's progress.
In all grade levels teachers strive to develop higher levels of thinking among their students. Their objectives include creating enthusiasm for the subject matter, teaching creative and inspiring classes and helping children to develop a positive self-image by emphasizing each boy's positive accomplishments and achievements.
After School Activities
|
When classes end in the afternoon, a new action-packed day begins as older and younger guys alike work in the computer lab, head toward the music building, study in the library, participate on one of the many athletic teams, play intramural basketball, learn strategy in chess class, expand their horizons with the Young Astronauts or attend tutorials and enrichment classes.
The Academy provides a wide array of afterschool activities for its students because these activities give our boys another opportunity to grow and learn. Afterschool activities foster self-confidence as the participants master new skills and learn how to be a part of a team.
We want students to develop a positive self-image and attitude toward physical fitness and sports, and we encourage them to participate to the best of their ability. Various activities are offered so that each student will find at least one sport he will enjoy. Over 90% of the student body plays on one or more of the 35 sports teams, including lacrosse, soccer, basketball, cross-country, tennis and golf.

The music program is also in full swing after school. Students take piano, brass, woodwind or voice lessons, and have the opportunity to participate in "Broadway Bound," bell choir or the boys' choir. These groups perform several times a year on campus and around the city.
The computer lab is also a very popular place as boys explore new programs or work on class assignments. SAA has over 200 computers designated for instructional purposes and updates its computer hardware and software each year.
Extra help is provided for boys who wish to get an early start on their homework. Many teachers are on campus after school to give additional help to students.
For prekindergarten through second grade students, a supervised afterschool program is in place until 5:30 PM.
The Year-'Round Afterschool Enrichment Program attracts boys and girls from all over the city. Enrichment courses cover a variety of topics, including Young Astronauts, chess, Spanish, piano lessons, ceramics, model rocketry, science and sports.
Afterschool activities have become part of SAA's culture, bonding our boys even closer to The Academy and furthering the sense of family that is the heart of the school. Our guys feel like they belong here, and they want to hang around after classes end.
