In memoriam: It is with great saddness that we report the passing of our beloved Headmaster Emeritus, W.T. Bondurant, Jr. Class of 1939, on June 12, 2009. "Colonel B" will be deeply missed by everyone at SAA. An excerpt from the San Antonio Express-News reads: Education was a high priority in the life of W.T. Bondurant, Jr. After all, his father was president of San Antonio Academy, a position Bondurant secured upon his father’s retirement. Grayson Hamilton '01 wins 'Battle of Flowers Oratorical Contest.' For his 10-minute oration, Grayson received $2,000, a chance to deliver his speech at an association luncheon during Fiesta, and an invitation to ride in the event's Battle of Flowers Parade on April 24. Walter ‘Waddy’ Armstrong’s '88 art was featured in a 2009 Saks Fifth Avenue catalog. Waddy graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1999 and since then has developed a name for himself as a young artist to watch. His works have been shown across the country including New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and throughout Texas. In memoriam: It is with great saddness that we report August Koontz, Class of 2005, passed away in his home on October 19. August will be deeply missed by everyone at SAA. An excerpt from his obit reads: "He was a gift to all who knew him. His zest for life and compassion for others was unmatched. He was a friend to all with the kindest soul and an always open ear." Pictured: a tree planted on campus was dedicated in memory of August.
Gardner Peavy '89 was interviewed by the Commercial Real Estate Journal (a supplement to the San Antonio Business Journal) on the topic of historic downtown office space. Gardner is the president and managing principal of Cambridge Realty Group Inc., a commercial real estate firm that specializes in San Antonio's central business district (CBD) downtown.
